Belachew Tessema, MD

Dr. Tessema completed his medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 2003, followed by an internship and residency in Otorhinolaryngology at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary from 2003 to 2008. He further refined his expertise through a fellowship in Rhinology, Advanced Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Miami in 2009.

As a highly accomplished otolaryngologist specializing in the advanced medical and surgical care of complex sino-nasal conditions, Dr. Tessema serves as Associate Director of the Ayer Neuroscience Institute Skull Base Center at Hartford Hospital. He brings exceptional expertise in the endoscopic management of advanced sinus disease and skull base tumors. His dedication to clinical excellence has earned him numerous awards, and he has contributed extensively to his field through multiple publications and presentations.

Dr. Tessema is a board-certified Diplomat of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He maintains active memberships in several prestigious professional organizations, including the North American Skull Base Society, the American Laryngological Rhinological and Otological Society, and the American Rhinologic Society.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Tessema is deeply committed to advancing global healthcare access. He serves on the advisory board for Global ENT Outreach, a nonprofit organization dedicated to training doctors from developing countries to achieve self-sufficiency in providing basic ENT-related surgical care. Through this work, he helps extend quality care to underserved populations worldwide.
